It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

You Won’t Believe What They Made Entirely Out Of Pallets!

Here is a pallet project I never would have dreamed of creating.

If you have ever had a quote on how much it costs to build a wooden deck or any type of hardscaping, then you know how many zeros we are talking about.

This family has gone around the system, beyond what I ever thought was possible with reclaimed pallets.  This patio/deck that they have created is a summer dream!! (And with a heat lamp or two, it is a wonderful outdoor winter space, too.)

What I like about this is all it really needs is pallets.  Everything else just speeds it up or makes it nicer.  You can take this idea and start small, and grow it little by little.

Good idea but kinda junkie looking at the finished project.

  2. I’d have to wonder about the weight load on those pallets for a floor, some of them are not very s$#%&!@*y. Wouldn’t be good if it broke when someone walked on them, have to be for skinny people only I’d think.

thats exactly what came to my mind!!! we used pallets in our goat pen all the time just for them to play on and my average size hubby stepped on several and went right through them. Pallets are very small boards this project would be very dangerous especially with them probably being in bare feet.

  3. That is why you pick ans choose your pallets. Most of them are made of oat and with stand up to 250 lbs. I bilt a poarch out of pallets and plywood and it is still standing today. and I am 299 lbs. w/o my wheelchair.

  4. As for the junkie look it is called the stressed look and made to look old. if you want it to look high end than put the money into it. What they are trying to show us here is what you can do with smoething you can for little or no cost to you and make something useful and that if you have kids and it gets messed up no big deal replacement parts are cheap.

  5. There will be spiders EVERYWHERE in all those spaces!!!

  12. Love this! The pallets I’ve seen can take a lot of weight. They are well-constructed even for pallets.

  13. anybody know where i can get pallets in spring hill

I would love to do this

  17. Gail Daniels says:

Just learned that pallets are sprayed with insecticide/pesticides to keep insects and mice and rats from ruining them when stored in warehouses. Not sure how healthy they are for the projects I have seen on DIY sites. Also the mulch bought in bags from the big box stores is made from ground up pallets and is obviously poison to our pets.

  20. keyword “plywood”

  21. Dale Bryant says:

Yes, I like the overall project but my personal experiences with pallets are that they are made of ‘waste’ wood and are flimsy and brittle – a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  22. Wow unbelievable,I want one too.

  23. @[701940140:2048:Christina Smith] check this out!! I know you love “pallet building” .

  24. I think it looks great.

  25. Rose Vance says:

Not in my yard. Those would be rotted in two years

  26. Anne Daniel says:

    love to see recyled ideas

  27. I agree Teresa, it is a very low end look. They could have achieved a more polished look by staining the wood and just putting a little more high end effort (without adding cost) into the idea. I also agree with a prior post saying it would be a haven for spiders. Good Idea, bad execution. They needed to take the pallets apart and create solid surfaces to walk and sit upon.

  28. Susie Adams says:

Actually looks like its made out of pallets, cheap and junkie. I wouldn’t want my kids or grandkids be walking across splintery boards nor will pallets hold up several people on them at one time . So not so neat. HONESTY Opinion!

  29. Iris Rocha says:

Here you go C$#%&!@*ie and Shawn, I could come hang out with you every day.

  30. neat idea… @[1619509430:2048:Kimberly Wessels]

  32. What ever you make outside is a haven for spiders, If you want it to look more high end than make one and let us see it.

  33. We made a small deck years ago with pallets and believe me it was strong..I mean your not going to have 50 people on it but it was strong enough for a nice sized table and chairs..

  34. dont listen to all the negative comments . The design and color choice is amazing would love to have one in my yard . Wish I had room for the pool too!

  35. Becky says:

You can always add plywood to cover the pallets, using the pallets as the base to make it nicer if you want to invest more money. You can also use stain instead of whitewash. Being that it is a patio by the pool I think it is wise to leave a little gap between so the water does not sit on the wood and cause rot. As you can tell this looks like it is out in the country and not in the back yard of a city home, I think it is great and does not break the pocket book.

  36. pallets have too big of a space in between. My kiddos would constantly be spilling and dropping stuff, then it would get sticky and be a haven for bugs and such. Nice idea though.

  37. @[100001626025437:2048:Jodi LaCrosse] some more ideas for pallets

  38. tammy foglia says:

I am moving in the next 3 weeks and this is a great idea for my back yard its cheap and Spacious Forget what we’re looking for I think I’m going to try this And I’ll let everybody know how it looks And how sturdy it is

  39. You got to see it? I went to the page and all I found was brown spotty bananas!
