2. Add hinges to a painting and mount it to hide your thermostat

You can get a continuous or piano hinge2 that spans the length of your painting, or just two small hinges3. For the canvas, make sure you find one that is deep enough to cover your thermostat. A 1 1/2 deep canvas should work for most.4 If you have a thermostat that is any larger, it is most likely has a motion sensor which you wouldn’t want to cover up anyway.

  3. Do not cover your thermostat with a painting. This increases the ‘warmth’ around the tstat which will overwork your air conditioning and under work your furnace. Furthermore, watch the positioning of other heat generators: lamps, appliances, tv, space heaters. Agreed, tstats aren’t pretty but they need to be exposed to function properly for efficient HVAC operations.
