He Turned His Ugly and Tired Ceiling Fan Into A Modern and Cool One!

Ceiling fans can be VERY offensive.

I didn’t grow up in a house with ceiling fans but I live in one now and I can tell you they are worth their weight in GOLD.  Just having it in my bedroom on low makes falling asleep so much easier.  When the air is moving, the whole room feels better.

Too bad, so many of them are so darn ugly.

No worries, tho…click through to see something you never thought about doing…

  1. getting rid of that popcorn ceiling would be a great project…just wet it, scrap it off, paint it with a coat of KILTZ, then paint it a nice cream color for brightness.

I’m pretty sure you don’t want to just wet popcorn and scrape it off. Historically it is known to be riddled with asbestos, so having it done professionally would be the way to go.

  2. I much prefer the Before…I think the After is ugly..

  3. some of the old popcorn finishes have asbestos fibers! Use caution!

  4. Well, he makes it sound easy. Just ‘ take apart and paint’. Duh. How to take apart? What paint? Then you have a DIY.

  5. Offensive? I like mine. If people are offended by my ceiling fan they don’t have to come over!, lol

  6. Iris Young says:

I liked the before fan better. Better colors before. Otherwise it looks just the same.

LOL..it is NOT a easy as it sounds! ALL those holes need to be taken care of, Taping is critical for clean edges( good luck on that), plus it takes several..as in 4 or more cans of spray paint over a few days to allow drying time. I did it..and was thoroughly tired of the project by the third day. But if you have lots of time and can buy at least 3-5 cans of each color of paint ( I used Rustoleumn.)..then go for it. Me..I’ll never attempt it again.

  8. November 2015 everything is offensive…..:)

  9. Lol, oh well. I like retro, sorry if I’m offending anybody, smh

  10. Deeann Davis says:

He spray painted the blades. BIG DEAL.

  11. Kathy B says:

Wow didn’t think it was such a bad idea to get these awful comments.. I like it thanks for sharing. I guess some moms forgot to teach their kids to be thoughtful of others. Simply stating not my style would of been sufficient.

But I love and I am eyeing my ceiling fan……. thanks.

  12. Pattie Ayers says:

So the metal part of the fan was gold-ish color on the original fan. It’s silver-ish on the new fan. ???? Don’t think painting that was an option because of the overspray getting in the motor. Hummmmmm …..

  13. Linda Cargal says:

Did not show the new look

  14. Donna O'Shea says:

    Well done Dana. Congratulations!

  15. Connie Evans says:

    I prefer the before look

  16. Mary Lindsay says:

I’ve been doing this for years….love my fans, just paint!

  17. We did this to our old ceiling fan a long time ago!!!

  18. Randi says:

I have ceiling fans in every room–Florida, you know. I treat them as ‘appliances’–necessary for living. They are all white, against a white ceiling–the idea is to make them blend in and ‘disappear’, not be a ‘decor’ item. Seems to make better sense that way.

  19. Betty Flota says:

Paint each blade a different color for a fantastic effect when it’s turned on.

  20. Greggory Johnson… next project!

  21. Rhonda L Bale- bet this would work on your Dining Room

  22. Katy Rivers, let’s do this at your house!!

  23. I love it. Taking it apart sounds difficult. Maybe just removing the blades and painting the fan in place using an artist’s brush.

  24. Laura Brick says:

    See Jeff, it will work!

  25. Sidney Kassner I like this idea!

  26. Linda Hood says:

    Done that years ago
