16. Keep the guest list for the ceremony and dinner small but invite everyone else for dancing, champagne and cake afterwards.
Now, hear me out. This may sound really tacky, but for us, it really worked and no one was offended. We had a small wedding at my parent’s house with a dinner service for about 55 people (that is how many could fit in the living room where the ceremony was!) For after the ceremony and dinner, we invited another 150 people over for dancing, drinks and champagne. I’ll admit this was unconventional, but it worked out perfectly and we were able to save a LOT of money on the food, stay within our budget and still have a honeymoon.
We sent out 2 different invitations and the one to our cake/champagne guests simply said that we were having an intimate ceremony with family at the house and that we would love for them to come over to eat cake, drink champagne and dance with us at 9PM.
17. Order take-out food instead of hiring a professional caterer.
Again, HEAR ME OUT. We found the best Indian restaurant in the city, had them deliver take-out which we then put in silver chaffing dishes and hired some servers dressed in black to help serve and clean up. We only spent $400 on a beautiful meal for all our guests! We draped beautiful fabric on all the tables and ate on the floor. It was so cozy and intimate. Take a look!
